![]() ![]() More towards late/endgame, with good enough stats and a decently equipped Frigate or Dreadnought you can hunt certain zee-beasts (Lorn-Flukes) with relatively low cost in ship damage and fear, then make a Pages (84) challenge to get 3x Secrets and a Colossal Fluke-Core. It's more a matter of when and how you do things. Like all right, you don't have Soothe and Cooper Long-Boxes and it's convenient to get them for, what is it, 3 Secrets at Irem? But you can also get them at Khan's Heart if you're willing to spam SAY Wander and can sit in port for a bit, or you can buy Strange Catch for Echoes at Irem and trade them (after a certain number of days passes). One or two secrets won't end your game, but if you're regularly dropping secrets then your stats will feel it.Īnd you don't *have* to spend secrets much if you know what you're doing. ![]() Like what is it, you can spend Secrets at Irem to get bales of parabola-linen and sell them? Seems great, but if you don't use Secrets to boost stats you have problems doing a lot of challenges for story events. I'd say it comes down to you can spend fragments or secrets as a matter of convenience, but you shouldn't do it as a matter of course. You can get Lamentable Relics pretty easily at Mount Palmerston but that requires luck and a load of supplies, and who's to say if you happened to have done that at that point in the game? How? 10 Fuel from the Pigmote Isle opening if you chose certain options, 5 fuel from the Fathomking's Hold if you asked for a boon and randomed into that, or maybe you happen to have a load of fuel because you were planning a trip but decided to cancel because you ran into an enemy that beat up your ship so you want to return to London for repairs.Īll things told, what with hold space and trips back and forth being such limiting factors, it's probably down to Lamentable Relics and fragments. Suppose you're loaded down with Port Reports so will be getting loads of fuel when you get into London, yet you *also* have a load of fuel on ship. But even then you can't really say that's definitively a wrong choice. So you could do it with 10 fuel, which is costly and even worse in terms of hold space. If you've already scouted Godfall and it's pretty nearby, and if Days Passed of whatever it's called is 199 or less then you can dump the wine pretty quick. If you use Recent News at Isle of Cats it's not the worst usage, you get 5 Mushroom Wine that you can sell for what, 100 Echoes at Fallen London, or 150 Echoes at Godfall? But then, when are you doing this? In what ship? If it's the starter ship then you might want to reserve 6 space for Clay Men and another 20 for Sphinxstone, then with supplies, fuel, and sundry quest items, you may not really have room to spare. Sure, your Recent News gets replaced, but that's only once per docking at Fallen London. If you want to only stick to Port Reports and not use Recent News for whatever reason, you'll need to spend a load of fuel and supplies going back and forth. What about Recent News? You can use it at Adam's Way, was it? to visit the city, or a Port Report for Mount Palmerston, or an Unread Log or something like that. So you could trade off your Zee-stories here but probably you'll have to do a load of grinding elsewhere - for example, each Recent News can be traded for a Zee-story at a light-ship. But a lot of storylines use zee-stories, and you need them to trade for mutersalt at Whither (if you want to get mutersalt, which you very well may). Well, they sell for what, 10 Echoes per to the Alarming Scholar. At the start, you can use 5 Zee-stories, like 60 fragments was it, 10 fuel, Lamentable Relic, or Recent News. and that changes depending on the situation.įor example, Isle of Cats. I think it's better to consider what's best in terms of real time expenditure. ![]()

Some operations are faster in NoSQL than relational databases like MySQL. The data structure used by the NoSQL database is vastly different from those used in a relational database. One of the critical advantages of MySQL is that it is customizable since an open-source GPL license allows programmers to modify the MySQL software to fit their specific environments. It can work on many operating systems and with many languages like C++, PHP, Java, C, etc. SQL serves as the widely recognized data language and standard form of communication for the MySQL database. It is a powerful program in its own right, handling a large subset of the functionality of the most expensive and powerful database packages. ![]() There are many reasons behind the popularity of relational databases like MySQL. ![]()

In New York, meanwhile, Fleischer created a grungy, often dangerous urban world for its characters to navigate. From its home in California, Disney was laying the groundwork for the idyllic, fantastical fairy tales that would soon dominate its oeuvre. The dueling studios’ styles were diametrically opposed. After a makeover, Betty became the first fully human, fully female animated character.Īt its height in the 1930s, Fleischer Studios was a giant in animation, rivaled only by Disney. She appeared in the Fleischers’ “ Talkartoons” series as the girlfriend of main character Bimbo and was such a success that the studio promoted her to its star. Initially, Betty was depicted as a dog with a button nose and floppy ears. Her constantly shifting design offers an intriguing case study of how representations of women-including fictional ones-are shaped by censorship, the public’s response and changing conceptions of morality. Betty’s appearance continues to evolve today, with the character donning ripped jeans, joggers and sneakers, and overalls in merchandise and on social media. Beneath that iconic look, however, is a more complex story of aesthetic transformation, from what Heather Hendershot, a media historian at MIT, describes as a “flapper-secretary-adventurer” in the early 1930s to a “middle-class homemaker” by the end of the decade. The enduring image of Betty is a flapper in a strapless minidress, with a garter peeking out above her knee and large hoop earrings in her ears. … They would come for the Betty Boop cartoon.” “She’s a big hit,” says Katia Perea, a cartoon scholar at City University New York, “and she’s a big hit in the same way that Felix the Cat is a big hit, where she was drawing audiences to the movie. For our discussion of the Gram-negative bacterial cell envelope we will use Escherichia coli, an extensively-studied organism that has served as a model for understanding a number of fundamental biological processes. The basis for the Gram stain lies in fundamental structural differences in the cell envelope of these two groups of bacteria. One group of bacteria retain Christian's stain, Gram-positive, and the other do not, Gram-negative. More than 100 years ago Christian Gram (1884) developed a staining procedure that allowed him to classify nearly all bacteria into two large groups, and this eponymous stain is still in widespread use. Here, we will highlight recent advances in our understanding of how these extracellular organelles are assembled. Recent advances in microscopy, which are discussed in other articles on this subject, have revealed strikingly nonrandom localization of envelope components. They also function as surfaces on which reactions can occur. However, membranes do not simply serve to segregate different types of molecules. Specialized functions occur within different compartments because the types of molecules within the compartment can be restricted. It is easily appreciated that a living system cannot do what it does without the ability to establish separate compartments in which components are segregated. The following discussion concerns the organization, composition, and the functions of the various layers and compartments that make up this remarkable cellular structure. To survive, bacteria have evolved a sophisticated and complex cell envelope that protects them, but allows selective passage of nutrients from the outside and waste products from the inside. Unlike cells of higher organisms, the bacterium is faced with an unpredictable, dilute and often hostile environment. The bacterial cell envelope, i.e., the membrane(s) and other structures that surround and protect the cytoplasm, however, is anything but a simple membrane. This view persisted for a number of years, particularly in the case of bacteria, because it could not be envisioned how such a “simple” organism could have anything but a simple membrane ( Rothfield 1971). Before this, many viewed the membrane as a semipermeable bag. Despite its obvious importance, membranes and their associated functions remained poorly understood until the 1950s. In addition to lipid components biological membranes are composed of proteins the proteins are what make each membrane unique. In almost all cells this structure is a phospholipid bilayer that surrounds and contains the cytoplasm. Chemists tend to think of membranes as self assembling but biological membranes do not self assemble they require energy to be established and maintained. Everything that exists outside of the biological membrane is nonliving. That means that the essence of the living state must be contained within the biological membrane it is a defining feature of all living things. ![]() The cell is a finite entity with a definite boundary, the plasma membrane. It has been well known since the late 1830s that all living organisms are composed of fundamental units called cells. ![]() |
